1. The Catacombs of Paris, France
Deep in the heart of the large city of Paris, there is a city of the dead. It is known as the catacombs. Here more than 6 million people are buried. My entry into this genre was through a dark tunnel, whose temperature lowered as I descended into it. That’s why I felt the oppressive silence. It embraced me, and the only thing that I could hear was the sound of my feet on the floor, made of stone.
As I moved deeper into the room the walls seemed to be closing in on me. I felt that I was walking around the dead which made me feel uncomfortable. The Catacombs are not the grave, and they are not a testimony of the human finiteness, they are the human finiteness. In that somber gloom, it was as if the weight of millions of dead people was on my back..

2. Aokigahara Forest, Japan
Also referred to as the Suicide Forest, Aokigahara is at the south-western foot of Mount Fuji. It is full of nature but there is something creepy about it. The density of the trees is such that sound absorbs so that there is an eerie silence. As I strolled in the twisted trees, the quietness was almost painful. Every sound of leaves and the cracking of twigs was loud.
There is a tragic history connected with the forest. Hundreds of people came here to commit suicide. The feeling of hopelessness is still quite present. You cannot help but feel that there are eyes on them at all times. The farther I went the more I got the feeling of going into a place where people don’t exist anymore. This is probably the reason why many got lost here. I am not talking about only the physical sense but in the mental aspect and if the forest itself is alive.

3. The Island of Dolls, Mexico
The Island of Dolls is one of those places that remain shrouded in mystery. For those who believe, it’s a chilling confirmation of their worst fears. The island is swarming with dolls. There are hundreds of them, hanging on trees, nailed to walls, and lying on the ground. One doll is even more terrifying than the other. Some of them have no arms or legs, their eyes are open and their mouths show sinister smiles.
I went there on a cloudy day, which was perfect because it made the whole thing more eerie. The dolls, left by the island’s former guardian, seemed to follow me with their empty eyes. The wind caused them to rock. It gives them the appearance of walking. As much as I tried to convince myself otherwise, I felt like they were staring at me with disdain.
The Island of Dolls is dark and I felt sorrow and the presence of madness throughout the island. This is why the caretaker lost himself in the idea of making sure the spirit of the dead girl would be there. The island is a world where fiction and horror become intertwined. The feeling of discomfort is even after I have come back.

Poveglia, an isolated island in the Venetian Lagoon, is still called the “Island of Ghosts. ” People know much about its past. During the Black Death epidemic, people from the mainland were isolated on the island. Later, someone built a mental hospital where patients were tortured.
The first thing that I noticed when I set my foot on Poveglia was the feeling of desolation. The environment is somewhat post-apocalyptic. There are ruined buildings overgrown with vegetation; the very air feels somewhat rotten. As I strolled through the ruins, the wind echoed the screams of the tortured souls.
The mood in Poveglia is rather sad and people are afraid of the unknown, which is quite natural. The island is reportedly among the most paranormal places on the planet. As I was standing there, I sensed there was an energy, a spirit, a ghost.

I spent a night in one of the hotel’s most haunted rooms. It involves guests’ sighting of ghosts, hearing strange noises, and cold breezes. There are many reported incidents of ghost sightings. As I slept in the bed, I felt that there was someone else in the room with me.
You can experience the sound of the floorboards, the dimming of the lights, and the drop in temperature. There was something sinister with the hotel. The furniture and portraits in the house are antique. The atmosphere of the house has a very old-school feeling. But there is evil that hides in the darkness. Many legends have a relation with Myrtles Plantation but the more famous one is the ghost of Chloe. It is a slave girl who hung after being accused of poisoning the family.
